Jacques F. Vallée, Ph.D. is a co-founder of Euro-America Ventures and a General Partner of SBV Venture Partners, a Silicon Valley group that invests in North America and Europe, primarily in high-technology and healthcare. The funds invested in 60 high-technology startups in the U.S., France and Israel and  led 19 companies to the Nasdaq stock market.

 

Jacques is a member of the science board for the French Genopole investment fund, specializing in genomics and biotechnology. Jacques also serves on the scientific advisory board of Bigelow Aerospace in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

Dr. Vallée was born in France; he received a B.S. in mathematics from Sorbonne and an M.S. in astrophysics from Lille University. Joining the University of Texas as an astronomer, he co-developed the first computer-based map of Mars for NASA, and later received a PhD in computer science from Northwestern University.  Moving to California, he pursued his career at the Stanford Research Institute and the Institute for the Future where he was Principal Investigator for the groupware project on Arpanet, the prototype network for the Internet, and served as the founder and CEO of a network software startup.

 

A venture capitalist since 1984, Jacques Vallée has worked with Sofinnova, Inc., the Siparex Group, and the Adler Group of New York, serving as an early-stage investor and director of many companies including Accuray Systems, Ixys, Ubique (acquired by AOL), Class Data Systems (acquired by Cisco). Other investments that he spearheaded include Sangstat Medical, Com-21, P-Com, Harmonic Lightwaves, Isocor and Mercury Interactive, all of which made successful IPOs on the Nasdaq market.
